For Professor Clarita Carlos, turning former president Rodrigo Duterte into the Philippines' special envoy to China will be a big boon to the country.
Carlos, who currently works as House Speaker Martin Romualdez's chief policy adviser on security and defense concerns, made this pitch of sorts on her Facebook Sunday, Aug. 13.
"PRRD as Special Envoy to PROC, plenipotentiary, is one of the best things that can happen...," she wrote.
The key description given by Carlos was "plenipotentiary", meaning "a person, especially a diplomat, invested with the full power of independent action on behalf of their government, typically in a foreign country".
Netizens had mixed reactions to Carlos' post based on the comments section.
Duterte served as chief executive from 2016 to 2022. His presidency was marked by the rosy relations between Manila and Beijing.
