President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday, Aug. 14, joined Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte in inspecting and helping in the school cleanup for the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Brigada Eskwela 2023.

Victorino Mapa High School in San Miguel, Manila also became the recipient of a P1-million financial assistance and cleaning equipment from the President.
The Chief Executive arrived at the Victorino Mapa High School for the Brigada Eskwela 2023, where he underscored the importance of everyone’s participation in ensuring the students have a good experience in school.
“Nakita naman natin kung gaano kahalaga, lalong-lalo na dito sa Pilipinas na lahat pati ‘yung mga magulang, ‘yung mga titser, kung sino man mga volunteer pagdating sa ating mga anak, sa mga bata ay talagang buo ang loob nating tumulong para gumanda naman ang kanilang experience dito sa pag-eskwela (We saw how important especially here in the Philippines that the parents, teachers, volunteers, when it comes to our children, that we wholeheartedly help to make sure they have a good experience in school),” he said.
This is a fresh start for the students, the President claimed, since this would be the first time since the lockdown because of the Covid-19 pandemic that things are getting back to “normal.”
“Ito na 'yung pinakaunang pasukan na medyo normal after the lockdown. Normal pero marami tayong pinalitan, marami tayong inayos na naging reklamo (This might be the first school opening that’s a bit normal after the lockdown. It's normal but we changed a lot of things, we fixed many complaints),” Marcos added.
The country’s top two officials, who won under the UniTeam ticket, joined in inspecting the school facilities, as well as repainting classroom chairs.
They were also seen interacting with the school officials and teachers.
Brigada Eskwela “is a nationwide school maintenance program that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort, and resources in ensuring that public schools are all set in time for class opening.”
School opening for the school year 2023-24 is scheduled on Aug. 29.
