Five persons were hurt in a fire that gutted a residential building at the corner of Ylaya and Raja Matanda Streets in Barangay 7, Tondo, Manila on Monday, Aug. 14.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said the five victims sustained minor injuries.
They were identified as Jane Myurrie Robleado, Ann Jonalyn Estabillo, Jose Abellano, Catherine Cerilla, and Ian Allan Guarin.
Meanwhile, police reported nine residents who suffered injuries after being hit by a responding fire truck.
The truck carrying fire volunteers was heading to Ilaya Street to help contain the fire.
The nine victims of the road accident were identified as Irene Ang, Audrey Bautista, Gabriel Yap, Reynaldo Caspe, Catrina Quilang, Guarin Josh Villamina, Joselyn Lubo Acosta, Harem Yap, and Violeta Estabilo, who died due to complete avulsions and fractures on her left hand, elbow, and thigh.
All victims were rushed to the hospital, while the police arrested Rodolfo Pineda, 27, the fire truck's driver
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire reached the first alarm at 4:37 p.m. and the second alarm at 4:41 p.m.
It was declared under control at 5:24 p.m. and was extinguished at 6:18 p.m.
Based on the investigation, the fire broke out at the second floor of the residential building.
At least 30 individuals were displaced by the fire. They are temporarily sheltered at the covered court of Barangay 7, Tondo.
Authorities are still investigating the estimated damage to property and the origin of the blaze.
