President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has ordered the rationalization of all livelihood programs of the national government.
Thus, bared Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman during the recent hearing of the House Committee on Appropriations on the P5.768-trillion National Expenditure Program (NEP) or proposed national budget for 2024.
“The President actually instructed us to rationalize all the livelihood projects and programs under the national government," Pangandaman told the congressmen.
"Because when he [Marcos] reviewed the NEP, the President's budget, he thought that there's a lot of agencies who provide livelihood programs separately," she noted.
As such, Pangandaman shared to the solons that the DBM will conduct a study on the matter this year, with the potential rationalization to be carried out in 2025.
"We will start our study this year and by 2025 maybe we'll just concentrate the livelihood projects and at the same time focus on those who really needs the program," she said.
The budgets for the individual livelihood programs of the different departments in government might get taken up during the appropriations panel's respective briefings with these departments.
The 2024 NEP worth P5.768 trillion is the largest ever in the country's history.
