The Presidential Communication Office (PCO) is ready to implement the Marcos administration's Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Campaign Project to combat misinformation and disinformation online.

Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil said this ahead of the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the PCO and its partner agencies on Monday, Aug. 14.
In a statement, Garafil said the MIL would focus on arming the youth with the right skills to discern various information they see online.
"The MIL is the administration's response to the disinformation and misinformation plaguing the country's digital landscape, focusing on capacitating the youth to become more discerning consumers of media," she said.
Other agencies joining the initiative are the Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Garafil said these agencies will collaborate with the PCO on a comprehensive execution plan crafted to address the root causes of the issue.
"The MIL will be integrated into the higher education curriculum, community-based training, and family-oriented programs," she added.
The Palace official likewise noted that social media companies and their platforms are expected to collaborate with the government by providing tools and training to fight disinformation and misinformation.
Among these are Google (YouTube), Meta (Facebook, Instagram, and Threads), TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter).
