13 BIFF members surrender

ILIGAN CITY – Thirteen members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) surrendered to the military in Barangay Pigcalagan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte recently.

These men under the Karialan and Bungos Factions operating in the provinces of Maguindanao del Sur and North Cotabato turned over five 7.62mm sniper rifles, two 60mm mortars, one Garand rifle, one caliber .50 Barret, two rocket-propelled grenades, one 12-gauge shotgun, and one M203 grenade launcher.

Armed Forces Western Mindanao chief Lt. Gen. Rey Galido said their surrender showcased the harmonious relationship and trust built between the local government units and the security sector as principal actors in building peaceful and progressive  communities in Mindanao.

“Notwithstanding this success, we will continue to employ a diplomatic approach in calling for the involvement of local officials and other partners in our sustained campaign to end lawless violence and demilitarize armed groups in the regions."
