Estomo tasked to supervise peace and order in 3 challenging regions in Mindanao
Police Maj. Gen. Jonnel Estomo was named as the new commander of the Area Police Command of Western Mindanao following the retirement of former Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr.
Estomo, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PMA) Class 1992, is expected to earn his third star, or a rank of Police Lieutenant General since the position is for three-star rank officers.
Estomo used to head the PNP’s Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), a time when aggressive police operations against Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO)-related crimes, particularly kidnapping activities among its workers, were exposed and busted.
He was later named as the director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), a post which made him one of the contenders for the Chief PNP.
Estomo was later appointed as director of the PNP Directorate for Plans.
With his new post, Estomo will supervise the peace and order in Zamboanga Peninsula region, Socksargen (Region 12) and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
