The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Friday, Aug. 11, announced the completion of four slope protection structures in Iloilo that are seen to ensure a safer and more convenient travel to upland barangays in the municipality of Leon.

Sanny Boy O. Oropel, the OIC-Director of DPWH Region 6, said that the structures constructed along the Junction Bancal-Leon-Antique Boundary Road in several barangays in Leon will stop the slope from deteriorating, spalling, or collapsing as a result of weathering or rain scouring.
The P319.1 million project consisted of four sections, 80 lineal meters in Sitio Tabionan in Barangay Bucari; 100 lineal meters in Barangay Tagsing; and two other sections measuring 100 lineal meters in Barangay Maliao.
The projects also involved the installation of high tensile wire mesh and the construction of concrete slope protection structures with stone masonry, concrete shoulders, lined canal, and metal guard rails as safety features.
Oropel said the structures will guarantee the safety of visitors visiting Bucari Pine Forest and other attractions in the nearby town of Alimodian, such as Imoy Falls and Seven Cities, in addition to protecting residents from rockfall, landslides, and soil erosion. (Nicole Magmanlac)
