Alex Eala and Australian partner Destanee Aiava crashed out of the doubles contention in the W25 Roehampton after suffering a 1-6, 5-7 defeat at the hands of Australian pair Petra Hule and Talia Gibson on Thursday, Aug. 10 in Great Britain.

The Filipina tennis star tallied twin victories after advancing to the next round of the singles and doubles events a day prior.

However, the Aussie duo proved to be too much for Eala and Aiava who found themselves weary in the opening set after coming straight from their singles match against each other, with the 18-year-old Filipina emerging on top after surviving a first-set scare, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

In the second set, the top seed duo of Hule-Gibson sunk to a 0-2 hole once the Filipina-Aussie tandem recovered and gathered steam.

Though it didn’t take long for the Aussie pair to jump to a 4-2 lead, Eala and Aiava took over once more for a slim advantage after winning three straight sets.

Despite Eala and Aiava’s determined fightback for an equalizer, it was a service winner that ultimately ended the match.

With the doubles event now done and dusted, Eala is staring at another tall task ahead as she faces top seed Priscilla Hon of Australia on Friday afternoon, Aug. 11 to boost her bid for a fourth ITF title.
