Police recovered a vintage hand grenade which was found by scavenger children in a Binangonan, Rizal riverbank earlier this week.
The young scavengers were fishing in the river inside the Mabuhay Homes Subdivision in Barangay Pantok on Tuesday, Aug. 8, when they found what they thought was a round rusty metal scrap.
Believing that the round object was just an ordinary metal, the children reportedly toyed with the round-shaped object and even reportedly tossed it around as if it was a ball.
A resident saw them with the object and promptly reported this to a barangay personnel who in turn reported it to the police.
The Provincial Explosives Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (PECU) Rizal of the Philippine National Police immediately dispatched the Explosives and Ordnance Division/K9 Team to the place and found the explosive device.
The EOD confirmed to the Manila Bulletin that the metal device is a vintage MK2 fragmentation hand grenade, which is now under the safekeeping of the PECU Rizal at the PPO headquarters.
