Meralco, BFP, Pasig LGU forge alliance on public safety; inspect utility poles, dangling wires

In the wake of the dangers posed to people and properties by the recent toppling of electric posts in Binondo, Manila, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Pasig local government are boosting inspections of utility poles in the city.

Meralco, BFP, and the local government conducted a line clearing and cleaning operation in Barangay Pinagbuhatan.

Personnel untangled clumped wires that have been hanging on the street poles, ensuring they are organized and properties are no longer at risk of damage. Broken wires were also replaced.

The partnership between the three parties aimed to improve public safety for communities by fixing faulty equipment, especially in public spaces.

Aside from these, they also set up coordination meetings with other telecommunications companies to address public safety concerns.

Particularly, Meralco said it prioritizes the initiative in order to “deliberate and propose concrete strategies to avert incidents of dangling wires.”

Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos had earlier called for bolstered safety measures following the Binondo electric post incident.

Heeding this call, Meralco forged the strategic alliance with the BFP and the Pasig City LGU.

Meralco said the partnership has led to a joint inspection of utility poles and a meticulous line cleaning operation in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.

"This multifaceted collaboration underscores Meralco's unwavering commitment to enhancing public safety
in collaboration with essential stakeholders, aligning with the DILG’s clarion call for proactive measures in safeguarding communities," it added.
