This early, former National Security Adviser (NSA) Clarita Carlos has called attention to a possible diabolical use of artificial intelligence (AI) that could ruin the integrity of an electoral process.
In a Facebook post Thursday, Aug. 10, Carlos noted how AI can now convincingly copy a real person's voice.
"AI's ability to mimic voices is deeply concerning at it can wreak havoc in elections by mimicking candidates' voices...," wrote the political scientist.
The next local elections in the Philippines won't happen until May 2025, meaning AI could have even more applications by that time.
At any rate, the scenario floated by Carlos will certainly give new meaning to the terms fake news and deepfake.
Carlos is House Speaker Martin Romualdez's chief policy adviser on security and defense concerns.
