ILOILO CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) awarded 42 young farmers from across Western Visayas region with a financial grant.
“This not only lifts your business but also your family’s future. Secure a future for your family. Be the catalyst of change for your generation. Be an inspiration to the other youth,” said DA-6 Regional Technical Director Jose Albert Barrogo.
The DA-6 awarded the 42 agri-entrepreneurs with P80,000 each during the 2023 Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) provincial category in Iloilo City on Wednesday, August 9.
The DA Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (DA-AMAD) launched the YFC to foster youth involvement in agri-fishery enterprises in 2021.
The YFC held in partnership with the office of Sen. Imee Marcos is a competitive grants program for young farmers.
Barrogo said the financial grant will be utilized for proposed agri-fishery enterprises of young entrepreneurs – either as an individual or as a group venture.
The grantees have advanced to the regional level competition. If they win, they can earn another P150,000 to further advance their proposed agri-businesses.
