1 hurt, 36 houses damaged as whirlwind hits Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – One person was injured and 36 houses were damaged by a whirlwind that struck Barangay Sinunuc here on Wednesday, August 9.

Residents said they saw a black cloud circling which then developed into a whirlwind that damaged structures in the area.

The whirlwind lasted for some five minutes but was able to wreak havoc in the neighborhood.

City Social Welfare and Development Officer Socorro Rojas said no residents were evacuated.

The affected homeowners asked for construction materials to help them repair their damaged houses.  The request was referred to the Office of the City Engineer.

Barangay Sinunuc Chairperson Pilarica Ledesma has directed barangay tanods and other residents to help in clearing operations.
