ILIGAN CITY – Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido inaugurated a brand-new flagpole and led a flag-raising ceremony in Bakkungan Island, Turtle Islands, Tawi-Tawi on Monday, July 31.
In line with its 17th founding anniversary, the Westmincom also held the groundbreaking of solar lamp posts, turned over medical and school supplies, and conducted joint military exercises.
These were held to signal the Westmincom’s transition from internal to external and territorial defense, said Galido.
Westmincom chief of the Unified Command Staff, Col. Emmanuel Cabasan, and Col. Wendell Basat, the assistant chief of Unified Command Staff for civil-military operations, facilitated the turnover of medical and school supplies to Bakkungan Island Barangay Captain Mujum Putoh.
Galido was accompanied by Naval Forces Western Mindanao commander Rear Admiral Donn Anthony Miraflor, Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi and 2nd Marine Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Romeo Racadio, Turtle Islands Mayor Mohammad Faizal Jamalul, and other Westmincom officers and staff.
