'Most wanted' personality in Central Visayas dies in police op – PNP
The top “most wanted” personality in Central Visayas (Region 7) died after allegedly resisting arrest during a police operation in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental on Monday, July 31, a report from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed.
A police report reaching Camp Crame identified the slain suspect as Alex Mayagma, whom the PNP said was the “Top 1 Most Wanted Person” in Region 7.
Elements of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office served a warrant of arrest against Mayagma at his house in Barangay Malabugas around 10:55 a.m. when a shootout occurred, the police said.
“The operating teams spotted the suspect and cornered him. However, while the operating team approached the suspect, the latter pointed his firearm towards them,” the report read.
The operating team scuffled with Mayagma until he was disarmed but the suspect tried to pull out another gun that was concealed in his sling bag,” the report added.
This prompted the operating troops to fire and shoot the suspect.
Mayagma was brought to Bayawan District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Mayagma was facing multiple charges including four counts of murder all in Negros Oriental.
According to a [report](https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1206812) from government-run Philippine News Agency (PNA), Mayagma was under close surveillance by the police due to his alleged involvement in a string of killings in Negros Oriental.
Mayagma was also reportedly being investigated for his possible involvement to the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo last March 4 in Pamplona.
