REFLECTIONS TODAY
With the use of images of what the world considers precious and worth spending one’s energy and resources just to gain them, Jesus tries to explain that the Kingdom of heaven is the greatest treasure one can find for oneself. It gives one the greatest of all joys. It even moves one to exchange it over and above all with what one currently possesses. There is only one person who really understood what the Kingdom of heaven is—Jesus. He truly understood that it is for this Kingdom that human life exists and that it is what the human heart longs for. He spent his life directing people to find this Kingdom which surpasses all worldly treasures, against which even the pearl of greatest price pales in comparison to its beauty. He knew that only his Father’s heavenly Kingdom is all that matters. He consistently held to this confidence unto the end of his life. Are we ready to follow Jesus’ path in pursuit of this Kingdom?
Gospel • Matthew 13:44-46
Jesus said to his disciples: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.” Source: “365 Days with the Lord 2023,” St. Paul’s, 7708 St. Paul Rd., SAV, Makati City (Phils.); Tel.: 632-895-9701; E-mail: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]); Website: [http://www.stpauls.ph](http://www.stpauls.ph).
