TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas reported a 46 percent decrease in dengue cases from January to July 22 compared to the same period last year.
The DOH-8 recorded 1,907 cases with 10 deaths during the period from 3,516 patients last year.
Of the total reported cases, 1,765 or 93 percent were hospitalized with ages ranging from 0 to 98.
Majority of the patients were male with 53 percent and 40 percent are from Leyte province.
At least 25 barangays have reported clustering of cases or have been tagged as hotspots in six provinces.
Meanwhile, in Arteche, Eastern Samar, the local government unit urged residents to participate in "Oplan: Kalog" or Oplan Kanal (canal) ngan Salog (river).
Mayor Roland Boie Evardone said they have logged three dengue cases in July, prompting them to intensify their search and destroy efforts for the mosquitos' breeding grounds in preparation for the rainy season and prevent the disease from spreading.
