Woman dies, brother injured in motorcycle-car collision in Negros town
BACOLOD CITY -- A woman died while her younger brother was injured after their motorcycle collided with a sedan in Barangay Lopez Jaena, Murcia, Negros Occidental on Friday, July 7.
Jennelyn Torno, 32, of Barangay Minoyan died in the accident while her younger brother, Josie Torno Jr., 29, and driver of the motorcycle, was hurt.
Police Capt. Everly Canto, deputy chief of Murcia Municipal Police Station, said that a sedan was executing a U-turn when the motorcycle driven by Josie lost control when it attempted to avoid the vehicle.
Canto said the Torno siblings were not wearing helmets, and Jennelyn hit her head on the sedan’s hood and fell on the pavement.
Josie suffered minor injuries, while his sister was declared dead in a hospital, Canto said.
Canto said the sedan driver was released from police custody after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.
Both parties have reached a settlement, she added.
