Tolentino takes charge late as NorthPort fends off Terrafirma

Arvin Tolentino came through with the big hits down the stretch as NorthPort fended off a late Terrafirma rally to eke out a 104-100 victory in the PBA on Tour at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City on Sunday, July 9.

With the Batang Pier finding themselves down by two points after a furious 7-0 run from the Dyip, Tolentino took over and scored the last seven points to help NorthPort snap its two-game slide and improve to a 4-4 record in the pre-season tiff.
Tolentino fired 28 points including the clutch triple he drained with 1:31 left that put NorthPort ahead for good, 100-99. He then followed it up with a strong drive to the basket before icing the game with two more free throws.
Backstopping Tolentino who also had nine rebounds and two blocks was Paul Zamar who dropped 13 of his 21 points in the first half when NorthPort managed to build a lead that went to as high as 17 points early in the second period.
JM Calma also produced 18 points and nine rebounds while Munzon chipped in 14.
It was a game of runs in the final frame with the Dyip scoring in spurts – first a 13-0 flurry that turned a once 11-point deficit early in the final frame into a 91-89 advantage.
NorthPort, though, had some answers with an 8-0 counterattack to restore a 97-91 lead. Refusing to easily give up, Terrafirma unloaded the second wave of its fightback with a 8-0 run ultimately setting up the table for Tolentino’s heroics.
Tiongson, who missed the last two games for Terrrafirma, announced his return with 25 points while Gomez De Llano sustained his splendid performance with 19. Gelo Alolino added 16 while Isaac Go chipped in 11 in a losing effort for the Dyip.
