CABADBARAN CITY, Agusan del Norte – A medical officer of the New People’s Army (NPA) has surrendered to the military.
She surrendered with her live-in partner to the Army 65th Infantry (Stalwart) Battalion (IB) and were formally presented here on Tuesday, July 4.
“Ka Milca” is the last member of her family who surrendered to the government.
Her parents left the communist movement and returned to the fold of the law on Jan. 16, 2020. Her sister, also an NPA member, followed suit more than a year later on Sept. 18, 2021.
Upon receiving a phone call from their daughter, her parents requested the 29th Infantry (Matatag) Battalion to visit their daughter who is under the custody of 65th IB for debriefing.
Tears flowed down their face as they reunited before the command group of the 65th IB and 29th IB.
“I’m happy that I am reunited again with my family,” Milca said in the vernacular. “I thought that my parents were already dead, per report of our commander, but they are all lies and propaganda, and here we are together again, in a happy reunion,” she added while embracing her parents.
Milca’s parents expressed gratitude that their daughter is alive. “I’m thankful that you (Milca) already came down,” said her teary-eyed father.
Her parents have been the recipients of a house given to them by the government in line with the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).
Lt. Col. Cresencio C. Gargar, commanding officer of the 29th IB, said they are happy that because of the combined efforts of the 65th IB, this family was given a chance to reunite.
“Yes, we are also happy that they reunited again and we are calling those remaining NPAs who are still running in the mountains to come down and avail of the government’s peace and development program,” Gargar said.
