CEBU CITY – Police have already identified the two men who attacked a dentist inside his clinic in Barangay Kamputhaw here.
Police are still withholding the names of the perpetrators pending the formal filing of charges against them, said Police Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7).
Based on the police investigation, the perpetrators are old acquaintances of Dr. Charles Sia.
Pelare said the motive of the attack could be business-related.
Sia was attacked by two men while he was attending to a patient on Wednesday, July 5.
The two culprits pretended as delivery boys when they arrived in the clinic.
When the two culprits saw the dentist inside his clinic, they struck him with a gun that rendered the victim unconscious.
The two men then handcuffed the dentist. One of the assailants then punctured the dentist's eyes.
The suspects were positively identified by witnesses, Pelare said.
Pelare said investigators from the Abellana Police Station were able to track down the perpetrators by reviewing security camera footage that captured the perpetrators before and after the attack.
The dentist is already out of danger but the severity of the injury of his eyes was not immediately known, Pelare said.
Pelare said Aberin condemned the attack and ordered a speedy resolution of the case.
Pelare said charges are expected to be filed against the two perpetrators soon.
“This is an act of conspiracy. The act of one is the act of all so they will be charged with the same charge,” said Pelare.
