One kilo of shabu worth P7.1 M seized from high-value drug pusher in Lapu-Lapu City
CEBU CITY – At least one kilo of suspected shabu worth P7.1 million was seized from a man during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City on Friday noon, July 7.
Police identified the suspect as Rhoniel Abastas, who was described as a high-value individual.
Police Lt. Col. Richard Oliver, deputy director of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO), said they will investigate the claim of the suspect that he served as courier of a big-time drug syndicate.
The suspect said the source of the illegal drugs came from an inmate.
“We will validate the information that the source of his drug supply is an inmate. We don’t know yet the jail facility where the supposed source of illegal drugs is detained,” said Oliver.
Oliver said the LLCPO has been conducting a monthly meeting with officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology due to several drug cases wherein the supposed source of drug supply were inmates.
“We will consider all possible sources. There is a big possibility that a big syndicate is involved here,” Oliver said.
According to their monitoring, Abastas was capable of disposing of one to two kilos of shabu a week, said Oliver.
The suspect was operating in the cities of Mandaue, Cebu, and Lapu-Lapu, Oliver said.
