'Infuriating': Gabriela says heads must roll over NBI 'sexy dance number'

An "infuriated" Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas wants the House Committee on Women and Gender Equality to hold an investigation on the "sexy dance number" that took place during a recent National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) command conference. “Hindi sapat na mag-sorry lang si NBI chief Medardo de Lemos sa nangyaring sexy dance number matapos ang NBI command conference. Dapat may managot," Brosas, a Makabayan solon, said in a statement Saturday, July 8. (It's not enough for NBI chief Medardo de Lemos to say apologize over the sexy dance number after the NBI command conference. Somebody should be held accountable). "We need an independent and thorough investigation on the matter,” said Brosas, adding that "heads must roll". “What’s further infuriating about the NBI scandal is that the bureau is the one legally mandated to handle sex scandal cases victimizing women, as well as cases of online sexual exploitation of children,” she added. Brosas, who is the sole women’s party-list representative at the House of Representatives, said she will file a resolution to probe the incident. She will specifically urge the Committee on Women and Gender Equality to schedule a hearing on the issue soon. “Hindi dapat palampasin ang pangyayaring ito. Baka pondo pa nga ng bayan ang ginastos sa palabas na iyon na itinuturing na pang-aliwan ang katawan ng kababaihan. Sa isang five-star hotel pa ginanap,” she said. (We shouldn't let this one slide. It's even possible that public funds were used to pay for the program wherein the bodies of women were used for entertainment. It was even held at a five-star hotel.) “All government agencies and officials must strictly adhere to the code of conduct and ethical standards, and should not in any way condone the explicit objectification of women, most especially during an official function. It is a shame if the NBI would find a way out of the mess by mere apology," she further said.
