Cache of firearms, ammunition discovered in Calatrava town in Negros Occidental
BACOLOD CITY – Troops of the Philippine Army 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) and policemen discovered a cache of firearms and ammunition hidden by New People’s Army rebels in Sitio Bandol, Barangay Maaslob, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Saturday, July 8.

The Army said that the discovery stemmed from the information they received from some residents who support the anti-insurgency campaign of the government. Recovered were an M14 rifle with magazine and live ammunition, M16 magazines, clips for Garand rifle, commercial radios, and subversive documents. These were reportedly buried on the ground by remnants of the defunct Northern Negros Front (NNF), according to the 79th IB. Lt. Col. Arnel Calaoagan, 79th IB commander, commended the soldiers and the concerned residents for their efforts in providing relevant and timely information that led to the seizure of the war materials and documents. He said the 79th IB will sustain its gains and be relentless in its commitment to ensure the safety and security of the Negrenses.
