INFANTA, Quezon – A fisherman fell off a fishing vessel while in the Pacific Ocean as he lost his balance while “answering the call of nature,” a belated report here said on Thursday, July 6.
According to the report of the Infanta police, the victim identified as Joel Labasan, 44, single, a resident of Barangay Dinahican here, was rescued by his companions but was already dead at around 4 p.m. on July 2, Sunday.
The victim, along with other fishermen, was on their way home after catching fish at Benham Rise.
While on their way to Infanta, the victim went to the rear portion of the boat to defecate, but he accidentally lost his balance and fell into the water, and was carried away by strong waves.
His fellow fishermen, who rescued him, tried to revive him but the effort turned futile as he was already unconscious.
Reaching the shore in Barangay Dinahican after hours of sea travel, his body was brought to the Our Lady of Peace Funeral Home, said Police Senior Master Sgt. Severino Leopardo in a report.
