Pasig's new business one-stop-shop to make services more 'convenient, accessible'
Bringing government services closer to Pasigueños, the Pasig City local government inaugurated the business one-stop-shop (BOSS) center at the Robinsons Metro East Mall on Friday, July 7.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, Rep. Roman Romulo, RLC President Sec. Frederick D. Go, RLC Executive Vice President (EVP) Faraday Go, RLC VP for Operations and Marketing and Business Development Joel S. Lumanlan, and other RLC officials graced the opening ceremony of the BOSS at Metro East.
The new BOSS was made possible through the [memorandum of agreement (MOA)](https://mb.com.ph/2023/02/20/pasig-lgu-robinsons-land-sign-moa-for-business-one-stop-shop-extension/) signed by the local government and the Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) last Feb. 20.
Through the MOA, the third floor of the Robinsons Metro East Mall was transformed into a BOSS, where residents from Barangays Dela Paz, Manggahan, and Santolan can easily access and avail of services from the government such as business permits, renewals, and other transactions.
“Taxpayers’ money is the lifeblood of a government or organization. Business tax accounts for maybe 50 percent or more of the budget every year. Business taxes and real property taxes make up 80 to 85 percent of our whole budget every year,” Sotto said in English and Tagalog.
“Kailangan ma-improve natin ‘yung customer, client, taxpayer experience pag nagbabayad ng buwis (We need to improve our custom, client, taxpayer experience when paying taxes),” he added.
Prior to the establishment of the Metro East BOSS, Sotto said he talked with the Local Financial Committee and other regulatory offices about ways to expand services to the barangays belonging to the northern quadrant of Pasig, which are far from the city center.
The Manggahan Annex BOSS at Karangalan Village, Barangay Manggahan, was first opened to alleviate the burden of residents to commute to the city center. However, the infrastructure of the annex and its staff were not deemed adequate, especially when catering to customers during peak seasons, the mayor said.
The offices of the Manggahan Annex were transferred to the Metro East BOSS. Aside from Manggahan, Dela Paz and Santolan, residents from Sta. Lucia and Rosario may also avail of the services at the Robinsons extension.
The departments currently included in the Metro East BOSS are the Building Permit and Licensing Department (BPLD), Business Tax and Miscellaneous Revenue Division (BTMRD), Treasury Department, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), City Environment and Natural Resource Office (CENRO), CENRO -Sanitary Department, and other regulatory offices.
For now, the Metro East site will just be a BOSS, but it will eventually expand and be renamed to City Hall Annex 2, wherein more satellite offices and government services will be offered.
“We are honored to partner with the Pasig City government in this worthwhile endeavor to serve the public,” said EVP Go.
Other attendees included City Administrator Atty. Geronimo Manzanero; Atty. Diego Santiago, assistant city administrator and officer of the Local Economic Development and Investment Office (LEIDO); John Carlo Fatallo, officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Management Information System Office (MISO); and the city council and department heads of the city government.
In 2021, the City Hall Annex 1 or the Ayala 30th BOSS was launched to help cater to Barangays Ugong, San Antonio, Oranbo, Kapitolyo, and Pineda from the western quadrant.
