DA: Capiz free from bird flu


ILOILO CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) confirmed Friday, July 7, that Capiz province no longer has a case of bird flu.
 
DA Memorandum Circular No. 27 said Capiz is free from Avian influenza, more than seven months after the first bird flu case in Western Visayas region was recorded in Roxas City, the provincial capital of Capiz.
 
With this development, DA-6 Director Dennis Arpia  urged all local government units (LGUs), poultry raisers, and poultry raisers in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod to monitor and protect the poultry industry from various diseases such as bird flu.
 
DA-6 assured residents that Western Visayas still has sufficient supply of chicken and eggs.
 
It said Western Visayas has around 125,940 metric tons of chicken or 177 percent sufficient. The region also has an egg supply of 37,088 metric tons or 128 percent sufficient.
