The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas through its Facebook page on Thursday, July 6, announced that Scottie Thompson sustained a hand injury which could sideline him for at least three weeks.

Gilas said the high-leaping guard suffered a metacarpal fracture in his right hand during one of the team's practices in Kaunas, Lithuania.

The extent of the injury has yet to be fully determined although the fracture was already confirmed after Thompson immediately underwent X-ray tests.

Thompson is set to visit a hand specialist when the team returns to Manila from its European buildup to determine the full timeline of recovery for the Ginebra guard

The injury should be bad news for Gilas who aside from Thompson, already without guards Ray Parks Jr. (wrist), RR Pogoy (hand) and Jordan Heading (back) whose injuries prevented them from joining the Europe camp.

There were also injuries to Gilas during the Europe trip with Thompson actually missing several tuneup games due to back spasms while Chris Newsome also had some issues with bruised knee.

Even Dwight Ramos played limited minutes in the team's recent tuneup against Lithuania select team after rolling his ankle while AJ Edu has yet to see action for Gilas due to an ankle injury.
