Rain showers to prevail in some areas due to ITCZ, easterlies
The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and easterlies will continue to bring rain showers to some parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, July 6.
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will affect southern Palawan, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-tawi due to the ITCZ, the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres where rain-bearing clouds form.
PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms due to the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.
PAGASA also advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, which are characterized by heavy but brief rains, lightning, thunder, wind gusts, and occasionally hail.
These may also result in landslides or flash floods, particularly in highly-vulnerable areas.
