Pasig's 'Hakot Challenge' project offers affordable fruits, vegetables to 100 families

Around 100 representatives of nutritionally-at-risk or malnourished  families joined the "Hakot Challenge" project of the Pasig Nutrition Committee (PNC) on Tuesday, July 4, to promote healthy eating habits to Pasigueños this Nutrition Month. Pasig Nutrition Committee FB / MANILA BULLETIN
The project was conducted in partnership with MAYANI, a digital "farm-to-table" service that delivers fresh produce and agricultural products sourced directly from local farms all over the country. For only P499, participants were allowed to "hakot" or grab as many fruits and vegetables that they can fit inside a "bayong" or rattan bag. The fruits and vegetables offered at Sto. Tomas covered court for the project include baskets of potatoes, silk squash (patola), Chinese white cabbages (pechay), string beans (sitaw), eggplant (talong), tomatoes, chayote (sayote), pears, and pineapples, among others. In line with the 49th celebration of Nutrition Month, the project aimed to encourage individuals, families, and communities to eat more nutritious food, and to develop healthier eating habits through balanced diets. Through their partnership with MAYANI, the project also served as an opportunity for the PNC to support the products of Filipino farmers. The "Hakot" Challenge is just one of the programs of the PNC this 49th celebration of Nutrition Month. To date, the PNC has also conducted an advocacy forum with civil society organizations (CSOs) to inform and explain the group's programs, projects, and activities (PPAs) for Nutrition Month. These upcoming PPAs include the launch of the Karinderya para sa Healthy Pilipinas Batch 2 on July 7, a "Bayani Bargain" program with MAYANI for Pasig City Hall employees, and a  "Mura na, Masustansya Pa!" cooking contest in Barangay Pinagbuhatan on July 18.
