Marikina LGU opens city resource website for 'Palarong Pambansa' 2023

Published Jul 7, 2023 06:33 am
The Marikina City local government opened its [own resource website](https://palarongpambansa2023.marikina.gov.ph/) as a guide for delegates, officials, and guests who will be visiting the city during the “Palarong Pambansa” or National Games this month and in early August. The website features a countdown of the days leading up to the games as its banner, as well as a welcome message from the local government, introducing Marikina to the guests who will be travelling to the city from across the country. For the sports delegations, information (address, persons-in-charge, number of rooms) about their respective billeting schools can be viewed. Thirty-six schools have been tapped to accommodate the delegates per region of the country. They will serve as the athletes', coaches', and officials’ resting and lounging areas during the duration of the games.

The playing venues for each sport were also showcased. Archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesports, futsal, SPED (goal ball, bocce), pencak silat, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling, and wushu competitions will be held in their designated locations in Marikina City. Aero sports, Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG/WAG), and Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) will be held in venues in Manila. Football games will be held in both the Ateneo Football Field in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City; and the Marikina Sports Center (MSC). Tennis games will be conducted at the covered courts of Rancho 1 and 2 in Barangay Concepcion Dos, Marikina City; and at Felix Manalo St., Cainta, Rizal. A separate page for the game schedules and other events relating to the Palaro will also be posted soon. During the conduct of the games, the website will also be posting and updating the rankings and medal tallies for all the sports in the Palaro.
For visitors who will be flocking to Marikina to support their teams, the website includes an accommodations page that lists the hotels, motels, and other rental residential establishments for visitors in Marikina, as well as in nearby areas like Cainta, Pasig, Antipolo City, San Mateo, Rizal; and Quezon City. Addresses, contact and distance information can be seen per establishment. Under the “Explore Marikina” page, the local government also collated all the restaurants, bars, malls, supermarkets, hospitals, parks, convenience stores, drug stores, museums, and resort or events places with pool amenities within the city. The local government also included a page displaying the authorized tricycle fare rates for ease of travel to the various locations in Marikina. A page was set up to display the city’s directory for emergency contact details, particularly to the Marikina Rescue 161 and the Marikina Police Station.
Marikina City was announced by the Department of Education (DepEd) as this year’s host city for the Palarong Pambansa. As such, preparations have been set by the local government for the games since May. Billeting schools and their expected services and amenities for the delegates were inspected and evaluated, and the rooms in the schools were furnished. Meetings between government officials and tournament directors and technical officers have regularly been conducted to ensure the full preparation of the city for the games. Simulations for the bike tour and the opening ceremony program, parade and performances were also held. On July 5, it was announced that the MSC Oval is 75 percent ready for the Palarong Pambansa or National Games that will open this July 31. The tartan was placed meticulously on the oval track to ensure the players are able to use the track safely, the local government said. Flushing operations were done to ensure the cleanliness of the MSC’s facilities for both players and avid watchers. The Palarong Pambansa will open at the MSC on July 31. The games proper will be held from Aug. 1 to 5. The closing ceremonies will be on Aug. 5.
