Magnitude 4.7 quake jolts Zambales — Phivolcs

A 4.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Zambales around 3:16 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 38 km beneath the epicenter, which was 28 kilometers from Palauig, Zambales.

It was initially measured as a 4.8-magnitude quake, but Phivolcs later revised it to 4.7-magnitude.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was felt at Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Palauig, Zambales.

It was also felt at Intensity III (weak) in Mandaluyong City; Manila City; Marikina City; Quezon City; Parañaque City; Pasay City; Pasig City; Agno, Alaminos City, Dasol, Infanta, and Labrador in Pangasinan; Obando in Bulacan; and Botolan, Cabangan, Iba, Masinloc, San Marcelino, and Santa Cruz in Zambales.

Meanwhile, it was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Makati City; Taguig City; Bautista, Bolinao, and Dagupan City in Pangasinan; Floridablanca in Pampanga; and Castillejos, San Antonio, San Felipe, Subic, and Olongapo City in Zambales.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
