Mayor Vico vows 'transparent, efficient' processes for new city hall campus
Following the announcement of the new Pasig City Hall Campus last Sunday, July 2, Mayor Vico Sotto vowed that all processes involved in the creation of the project will be conducted efficiently and are transparent to all Pasigueños.
"The real work is up ahead. We will make sure that we are on time, that we are able do this properly, transparently, and efficiently," Sotto said.
Along with informing Pasigueños "every step of the way" in relation to the project, he said that the budget or funds allocated for the proposed campus will be disclosed to the general public when they are finalized by the Pasig Public-Private Partnership Selection Committee (P4SC).
The P4SC was created to facilitate the negotiations that are currently being conducted for the proposed campus.
The P4SC comprises City Administrator Atty. Geronimo Manzanero, who sits as the committee chairperson; Vice Mayor Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr., along with representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs) namely the United Architects of the Philippines-Pasig, along with the persons with disabilities (PWD) and business sectors.
The committee was tasked to ensure that all aspects of the joint venture agreement for the city hall campus are thoroughly reviewed, especially the engineering layout and architectural design of all the structures within the campus.
By including CSOs in the committee, the P4SC is committed to creating an inclusive campus wherein the facilities and other infrastructure will be functional and convenient for PWDs, senior citizens, and other groups.
Sotto said the plans for the new city hall campus that were unveiled to the public last Sunday, July 2, showed only the surface of the project, stressing that the campus goes beyond mere structures.
"We are not just constructing a building. We will spur local economic growth and development. Bubuhayin natin ang poblacion ng Pasig City (We will resurrect the center of Pasig City)," he remarked.
Due to the imminent danger posed by their current city hall, which was deemed as "structurally unsound," Sotto said they are undertaking the project as fast as possible.
He admitted that the whole project will realistically take around 10 years to fully complete. However, the priority is to build the actual city hall building in two years, he said, ensuring it is safe and secure for city hall employees.
Sotto said they are preparing the still undisclosed temporary relocation site for city hall employees.
