Seasoned runners and beginners, families, and friends came together for the first ever Lazada Run Philippines, which was held on Sunday, July 2, at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. From the 21KM, 10KM and 5KM categories, a 1KM run for kids, and various Lazada-inspired activities at the race village, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

A rewarding experience for all

“What makes the Lazada Run so special aside from being a run mounted for the first time ever by an eCommerce platform in the country, is it also encourages families and friends to enjoy a morning of camaraderie and community. The vouchers and prizes they are also able to win along the way are an absolute bonus,” said Lazada Philippines CEO Carlos Barrera.

The Lazada Run gave participants a one-of-a-kind experience with Lazada app-inspired rewards like the Checkout Checkpoints, where runners earned Lazada vouchers by running through the checkpoints spread across the race route. To motivate runners to keep going, Lazada also had Running Vouchers— pacers who wore hanging physical vouchers that were up for grabs.

Throughout the run, attendees were treated to surprise appearances from Lazada ambassadors Anne Curtis, Alden Richards, and Gabbi Garcia, who led the morning warm-ups and joined the awarding of top finishers. OPM band Mayonnaise also closed out the show to the delight of attendees.

The race continues for top finishers

With the Lazada Run Philippines being one of the six legs of the first and only running event organized by an e-Commerce platform in Southeast Asia, the race continues for the top 10KM and 21KM finishers, who will be sent to join the finale race at the Marina Barrage, Singapore on July 23, 2023.

21KM top finishers Christine Hallasgo from the female category and Richard Salaño from the male category, with race times of 1:21:46 and 1:09:30 respectively, and 10KM top finishers April Rose Diaz from the female category and James Darrel Orduna from the male category, with race times of 0:42:00 and 0:31:37 respectively, will not only get an all-expense paid trip from Lazada, but will also represent the Philippines in the culminating run.

Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano of host city Pasay graced the finishers' awarding ceremony, and said: "Allow me to congratulate and extend our utmost pride and appreciation to the leading e-commerce platform not only in the Philippines, but also in the whole of Southeast Asia, Lazada. Your ingenuity and brilliance are truly highlighted in pioneering this momentous event."

Mayor Calixto-Rubiano was joined by Congressman Howard Guintu, Department of Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Marge Gutierrez, Department of Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo, Department of Tourism COO Marga Nograles, Senator Grace Poe's Chief of Staff Brian Poe Llamanzares, Taytay-Rizal Councilor Boknay Leonardo, and Tuguegarao Councilor Charo Soriano, who were recognized as Inspiring Young Filipinos.
