Senator Ramon "Bong’’ Revilla Jr. on Tuesday, July 4, said the Department of Tourism (DOT) is more than justified in terminating its agreement with DDB Philippines whose DOT "Love the Philippines" promotional video showed tourist attractions of other countries.

"DDB’s admitted ‘oversight’ has caused the country embarrassment,’’ Revilla stressed. “We are one with the Filipino people in the indignation expressed towards the shortcomings of DDB that resulted in infirmities in the recently launched campaign of the DOT," Revilla said. "I, likewise, commend the DOT in its swift action of exacting accountability from DDB Philippines,’’ he pointed out. Revilla said the efforts of the DOT under the very able stewardship of Secretary Christina Frasco in the past year to help rehabilitate local industries which suffered tremendously with the global shutdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic should not be obscured by the failure and mistake of DDB Philippines which was not only beyond, but utterly in contravention of its obligations to DOT under their agreement. “As we start to rise from the ruins of the global pandemic, let us find strength in coming together towards showing the entire world not only the beauty of our country and all its over 7,000 islands, but as well as our resilient Filipino spirit, our bayanihan, and our unity amid adversity,’’ he pointed out. Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III earlier, also expressed his disapproval on the promotional video which used stock footage of other nations' popular destination. "Wow! As in Grabe naman yang nangyari given the explanation. Nothing adds up. Parang one plus one equals seven. Whew!" Pimentel said. Pimentel also said DDB's promotional video is "very disappointing due to the very unprofessional work using stock video footages.’’ "Love the Philippines is the idea yet we were proudly showing Indonesian, Thai, Swiss and Emirati tourist attractions,’’ he pointed out. "Anyway, we want to be a friend to all nations. Hence maybe that is our expression of our friendliness to all nations. We promote them also in our promotional videos about the Philippines,’’ he added. Other senators who also voiced their dismay at the latest tourism video campaign are Senators Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara, Grace Poe, and Nancy Binay.
