The Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD) bagged the best jail facility award in the National Capital Region (NCR) for having efficient management style that supported the government’s intense campaign against illegal drugs, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said on Tuesday, July 4.
Quezon City Jail warden Supt. Michelle Ng Bonto received the certificate of recognition from BJMP-NCR Director Chief Supt. Efren Nemeno during the 8th Regional Management Meeting and Awarding ceremony on Thursday, June 29.
The QCJMD remains a drug-free facility as attested by the recently concluded intensified joint greyhound operation that yielded negative presence of illegal drugs, according to Nemeno.
In the latest search and inspection operations, the QCJMD only yielded a few improvised bladed weapons and incepicks which the BJMP considered as nuisance in the contraband category.
The search and inspection operations were conducted by 25 jail officers and 11 members of the QC police with two K9 narcotic detection dogs.
Bonto said the achievement of the QCJMD team is attributed to the “Winning Hearts and Minds Approach.”
The strategy, which she personally advocated, resulted in the positive engagement of jail personnel in the implementation of welfare and development programs among its resident persons deprived of liberty (PDL).
“This is also in reaction to the jail bureau’s mission, vision and objectives made possible through the strong support and the exemplary and multi-awarded city mayor Joy Belmonte,” Bonto said.
Apart from the joint greyhound operations done by the other law enforcement agencies, Bonto explained that daily inspections are also done by the QCJMD personnel to flush out illegal stuffs inside its facility as part of the “Oplan Linis Piitan” of the BJMP and in support of the Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
