While the law must prevail, Senator Robinhood C. Padilla called for sobriety from all sides to prevent further violence in Sulu.

Padilla said he is constantly keeping watch over the developments in the situation in Sulu involving the police operation to serve a warrant of arrest and search warrant issued by the court on former Maimbung Vice Mayor Pando Mudjasan in past weeks. "If we can resolve this issue through peaceful negotiations. I hope this can be given the chance to prevent further violence,’’ he stressed. "I am surprised and saddened that there had been casualties in the operations," he added. Mudjasan and his followers remain at large after a firefight with law enforcement operatives out to arrest him based on a court order. "I continue to monitor the situation and am listening to all sides, including the call of former Vice Mayor Mudjasan to be in his video,’’ Padilla said. "As I recognize the actions of the Executive Department at this time, I am deferring to the course of action they are taking. In the legislature, we have the chance to do our part by holding a hearing in aid of legislation if the situation warrants,’’ he added. Padilla said the sensitive Mudjasan issue is being addressed by the Executive branch through its law enforcement agencies — Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines. These agencies, according to Padilla, have ensured they would abide by and uphold the peace process in the area. At present, Padilla said his attention is with our fellow Filipinos in the Bangsamoro, especially the 6,000 and more who were forced to leave their homes due to the encounters. "At the center of our concern is to ensure help reaches those who are affected,’’ he said. "I fervently hope the message of Islam for peace will be the guide for us all. I believe peace will prevail in the end," he emphasized.
