ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Some 4,000 youngsters have registered in the Summer Learn to Play program offering a month-long free training in 24 sporting events for 7 to 15 years old participants.
Mayor John Dalipe led the opening program of the Summer Learn to Play program at the City Coliseum in Barangay Tetuan on Monday, July 2.

Dalipe described the program in his speech as an initiative that has proven to be the breeding ground for exceptional athletes who have gone on to achieve remarkable success in regional, national, and even international competitions.
The mayor mentioned Zamboanga homegrown Olympians Hidilyn Diaz and Eumier Marcial who are also products of the program.
Diaz was Olympic gold winner in weightlifting, while Eumir, many-time champion in different international tournaments, settled for bronze during the 2020 Summer Olympics.
The sports included in the program are Archery, Arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball/softball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesport, football/futsal, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, muay thai, pencak silat and sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.
“The future of Philippine sports lies in the hands of talented individuals like you,” Dalipe addressed the young participants.
