As he graced the opening of the annual sporting event on Monday, July 31, Marcos invited the citizenry to give the Palaro and the competing athletes attention, stressing that they will someday represent the country in the international scene. "So, as we commence the 2023 Palarong Pambansa, I invite all our countrymen to watch the games, cheer for our favorite players and teams, learn to see who are going to be the future champions of the Philippines and we watch them as they compete in their respective sports," Marcos said during the opening held in Marikina City. "I am certain many of our participants here one day, we will be watching in international competitions as we have become a force in terms of international sports," he added. The President emphasized that the Palarong Pambansa and other sporting events of its kind, including the provincial and regional games, are where Filipino standouts come from. "[D]iyan po nagbubunga ang ating mga nagiging champion, diyan po nanggagaling yung mga ating sikat na Pilipino na kinikilala hindi lamang dito sa Pilipinas, kundi sa buong mundo—'yan po ang aming inaasahan sa inyo (This is where our champions are produced, this is where our famous Filipinos, not only in the country but in the world, are coming from—that is what we are expecting from you)," the Chief Executive said.
