Over 160 schools have been damaged due to the onslaught of Typhoon Egay and the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday, July 31, said.

Citing data as of July 28, DepEd said that a total of 169 schools sustained damages.
These schools are located in nine regions including Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), National Capital Region (NCR), Region I, Region II, Region III, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon (CALABARZON), Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (MIMAROPA), Region V, and Region VIII.
DepEd said that the total estimated cost for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the damaged schools is P810 million.
Meanwhile, as of July 25, DepEd said 68 schools are used as evacuation centers. These schools are located in four regions including CAR, Region II, Region III, and VI.
