President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. hailed the national women's football team for their historic stint in the FIFA World Cup, saying it will be the first of many victories for the team.

"Congratulations, Filipinas, on your remarkable journey in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup!" Marcos said on social media on Monday, July 31. "Let this be the first of many victories," he added as he vowed to them that the government will continue to support Filipino athletes. "Our government will continue supporting our athletes towards more success in different sports!" he further said. The Philippine women’s national football team—Filipinas—made a historic debut in the FIFA World Cup last July 21. They concluded their World Cup run with a win against the tournament co-host New Zealand. The tournament is co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
