The Marawi Compensation Board (MCB) has an estimated 12,000 pending individual appointments seeking either structural or death claims in connection with the 2017 Marawi seige.

This was bared by MCB Chairperson lawyer Maisara Damdamun-Latiph during the briefing Monday, July 31 of the Ad Hoc Committee on Marawi Rehabilitation and Victims Compensation at the House of Representatives.

Damdamun-Latiph said the 12,000 appointments have been scheduled for assessment up to March 2024.

She said that, between July 4 and 27 alone, a total of 3,323 individuals have booked for assessment. Out of the figure, 2,283 have undergone screening.

As per the implementing rules and regulations, a person was entitled to receive compensation worth P18,000 per square meter, per story if his or her home that was made of concrete was totally damaged from the seige.

Meanwhile, compensations of P13,500 and P9,000 per square meter, per story is given to claimants who had homes made out of mixed concrete and wood, and made out purely wood, respectively.

A compensation of P350,000 may be claimed by families for the death or disappearance  of a relative during actual seige from May 23, 2017 to Oct. 17, 2017.

The ad hoc committee is chaired by Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonta Adiong. The panel's briefing Monday was the first since the second regular session began last July 24.
