Iloilo provincial government recognized for PWD programs


ILOILO CITY —The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) has recognized the Iloilo provincial government led by Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. for promoting the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

“The commitment demonstrated by the Iloilo provincial government on disability inclusion and empowerment is instrumental in transforming municipalities in the province, inclusive of PWDs in all its development efforts,” said NCDA Regional Program Coordinator Delfina Jaleco-Baquir.

The NCDA gave individual awards to the governor and two officials of the Iloilo Provincial Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

Iloilo PSWDO chief Sarah Barayuga and Ann Rapunzel “Rara” Ganzon, who also serves as  officer designate of the Person of Disability Affairs, were specifically recognized for their roles in “Search for Person with Disability Friendly and Inclusive Municipalities," a PWD-inclusive program in local governance.

During the recent National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week, Ganzon said that a PWD help desk was set up at the Iloilo Capitol Lobby as a one-stop center for PWDs to avail government services.
