Health department reports 42% increase in leptospirosis cases from June 18 to July 1
The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 182 new leptospirosis cases from June 18 to July 1, marking a 42 percent increase compared to the 128 cases reported two weeks earlier.
The total number of leptospirosis cases, based on DOH's data from January 1 to July 15, has now reached 2,079.
"Region III exhibited continuous increase in cases in the recent 6 weeks reporting 9 cases in the recent 2 weeks (July 2 to 15)," the department said on Monday, July 31.
Meanwhile, the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Regions 2, 4-A, 4-B, 9, 10, 11, and Caraga also showed an increase in cases in the last three to four weeks, with numbers ranging from seven to 53 cases.
Regions 1 and 5 also recorded an increase in cases in the past two weeks, with nine and three cases, respectively.
DOH also announced a total of 225 fatalities due to the disease.
