DSWD chief orders delivery of additional 289k food packs to flood-hit regions
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Monday, July 31, directed the immediate delivery of additional food packs to local government units (LGUs) hit by floods in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
The National Resource Operations Center (NROC), the DSWD’s primary disaster response hub located in Pasay City, is expected to distribute 289,906 boxes of family food packs (FFPs) to the three regions in the first two weeks of August.

About 120,406 FFPs will be sent to the Ilocos Region, and 24,500 FFPs will be delivered to CAR. Meanwhile, Gatchalian instructed Director Jonathan Dirain of the DSWD-Field Office III to inform the LGUs in Central Luzon to pick up their assigned FFPs at the NROC. Central Luzon will receive 140,000 FFPs due to severe flooding caused by the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” intensified by typhoons Egay and Falcon. According to DSWD-Disaster Response and Management Group Undersecretary Diane Cajipe, the FFPs earmarked for the provinces in Central Luzon include 50,000 FFPs for Pampanga, 30,000 for Bataan, 50,000 for Bulacan, and 10,000 FFPs for Zambales. “We will start dispatching today (July 31) with 10,000 boxes of food packs for Pampanga,” Cajipe said. Gatchalian urged the DSWD regional directors in the CAR, Central Luzon, and Ilocos Region to regularly monitor the needs of the LGUs that have been affected by various weather systems.
