The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and all its attached agencies have started providing the safety measures areas severely affected by typhoon "Falcon".
DILG Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. said personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) were strategically positioned to ensure the safety of the affected communities in Luzon as most of them remain inundated due to the heavy rains.
“The department is also closely working with concerned national government agencies to mobilize support and assistance to local government units (LGUs) that are on the path of Falcon and due to enhanced Habagat (monsoon),’’ Abalos said.
The DILG chief pointed out that the department is closely coordinating with the governors of the affected regions “to tackle preemptive and response efforts as heavy rains and flooding are expected for the next few days following Falcon’s entry in the Philippine area of responsibility.’’
In an advisory, Abalos reminded the LGUs to continue the evacuation of the affected families and individuals, especially in hard-hit areas and those experiencing heavy floods.
He also encouraged the public ‘to be vigilant and cooperate with the authorities in its disaster response efforts.’’
Abalos also urged the concerned LGUs to enforce the no sailing policy for fishermen and sea-faring vessels where gale warnings are issued.
He stressed that the PNP and the BFP are still on full alert status and are ready to extend its full assistance to the LGUs in their disaster response, relief and recovery efforts.
