Around 100 sacks of garbage were collected by the Manila Department of Public Services (DPS) during a clean-up operation at Baseco Beach in Barangay 649, Port Area, Manila, on Sunday, June 30. “Bumabagyo man, hindi nagpatinag ang DPS -Manila Team Mandaragat sa paglilinis ng Baseco Beach (Despite the typhoon, the DPS-Manila team did not waver in cleaning Baseco Beach),” the city government said. Most of the garbages were non-biodegradable waste like plastic bags and bottles, straws, product packagings, and styrofoam. DPS- Manila said the garbages were scattered on the beachfront due to the heavy downpour and strong wind caused by the southwest monsoon and super typhoon Egay. It urged the public to practice proper waste disposal and avoid dumping debris into waterways. The local government noted that the "DPS Baseco Beach Warriors" will continue conducting clean-up drives on the city's shores even after the monsoon and typhoon. It also reminded the residents to follow the scheduled waste collection of the LGU garbage trucks.
