PH Red Cross provides aid to 'Egay'-affected families; prepares for 'Falcon'

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 30, PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Gordon mobilized his team and dispatched staff and volunteers to deliver much-needed aid in the areas ravaged by "Egay." "Immediate response is crucial as a super typhoon can claim lives in an instant. At the same time, we are prepositioning other humanitarian equipment and vehicles in preparation for Tropical Storm Falcon. We are working 24/7 to help the people," Gordon said. On July 29, the PRC provided the following lifelines to thousands of individuals in Abra, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Zambales, Rizal, and Metro Manila, among other places.  These include hot meals for 6,045 people, bread, bottled water, psychological first aid, child-friendly activities for 635 children, hygiene promotion for 1,260, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, slippers, and jerry cans, medicines, blood pressure tests, health consultation, health promotion, 11 first aid stations, and seven welfare desks. The PRC Rizal Chapter was also actively involved in the rescue, search, and retrieval operations for the victims of a boat that capsized in Binangonan, Rizal, on July 27 during the impact of Typhoon Egay.  Furthermore, a 10,000-liter PRC water tanker dispatched from the National Capital Region (NCR) reached Ilocos Sur to support relief efforts in the region. Meanwhile, Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang stressed the importance of disaster preparedness and community resilience-building. "This is one of the reasons why we keep training communities to be disaster-resilient.
