The Pasig local government activated the“red alert” across the city as it prepares for the effects of Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Falcon.
The alert was first announced by the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) at 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, due to the heavy downpour of rain caused by the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
The city remains in the “red” status on Sunday morning, July 30, as light to moderate with occasional heavy rains occur in Metro Manila in the coming hours, according to the 11 a.m. advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geographical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
According to the city’s Public Information Office (PIO), the Incident Management Team (IMT) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) are still activated.
“Various local government offices and agencies are currently checked in for faster coordination and response when needed,” said the PIO.
As of 8 a.m. resources were downsized since the impact of the monsoon rains have lessened and the water level at the Marikina River has gradually decreased.
However, the local government and the DRRMO are continuously monitoring the developments in the condition of the weather, and are prepared to deploy resources in case of emergencies.
As per PAGASA, STS Falcon is currently moving northwestward with enhanced southwest monsoon winds and rains expected throughout Sunday to Tuesday in Metro Manila.
Previously, the local government activated the “blue” alert for Super Typhoon Egay.
